Today’s a good day to update the story on Dick Tracy with the barefoot scam artist, Sprocket Nitrate. The plot line (finally) seems to be coming to its climax.
You may recall that Sprocket and her brother, Silver, were sprung from jail by Public Domain, who needed them to put on a scam of his own. You can see my past posts on this story here, here, and here.
At this point in the story, the scam has been exposed, and Dick Tracy has arrested Public Name (Dick Tracy characters always have weird names). Sprocket and Silver Nitrate are hiding out in one of their standard sorts of places: an old theater.
Here they are heading down to their secret hideaway.
Sprocket is a full-time barefooter.
We don’t see Sprocket (at least from the waist down) for a bit. But here she is out on a food run.
While it’s great that she’s a barefooter, when the police are out looking for you, it does make you rather easy to spot. (If I’m ever on the run from the Feds, it’s cowboy boots for me! That’s the only way I can go incognito.)
Sprocket strikes up a conversation with Mr. Oops in a coffee shop. And again, we get the explanation for why she goes barefoot.
I suspect this plot line will be coming to an end soon. There’s been a foreshadowing strip where one of the theater ushers has found out that a guy was killed under the stage. I’m guessing that’s where the Nitrates are staying. And Sprocket’s bare feet are just advertising her.
Stay tuned.
