Today’s comic is from a rather new strip that was started just about a year and a half ago. The strip is called Francis, from the National Catholic Reporter, and takes a light-hearted look at being the pope.
The strip below is a double, from a year ago, introducing the pope’s personal assistant and cartoon sidekick, Brother Leo. (I included the first one as part of the set-up; that and it was rather funny.)

Unfortunately, in later strips Brother Leo is always shown wearing sandals, which I’m afraid is what most Franciscans have gone to (for some unknown reason, to me).
I like Brother Leo’s eagerness. He’s having fun going barefoot and sleeping on the floor. (I do both, too, and enjoy being different as well.)
Not to spark a fierce religious debate, but it’s a bit of a paradox if I as an atheist have to prove to the discalced congregations that it’s perfectly possible and even enjoyable to live a barefoot life, not because of some divine miracle, but because we all evolved to be adaptable to our environment.
