I generally don’t worry about venomous snakes when I am out hiking, but it sure is a concern of those who I meet. So the question arises, just how much risk is one taking when out hiking barefoot?

It’s a 70° in central Ohio at the end of January. So, what are you going to do? Well, you’re going to take down your Christmas lights. But before you do that, you’re heading out for a hike.
For me, that meant that yesterday I checked out a new place for me: Rhododendron Cove.

Since the beginning of 2006 I’ve kept track of my barefoot hiking miles. I’d meant to recap it at the end of last year but never got around to it.
So here’s what I’ve done.

[To those happening to come here wondering about Dave, you might also be interested in what’s coming up in season 4, and how Cody was fired after the fourth episode. See Dual Survival Season 4 Starts Tonight.]
A lot of people still wonder why Dave Canterbury was replaced by Joe Teti on Dual Survival. While there were plenty of hints out there about exaggerating his resume, Dave had now created a video in which he apologizes for doing so.

Of course I had to hike it barefoot.

Yesterday was the Clear Creek Metro Park Metro Five-0 hike to the ice cave. It is a really popular hike: 51 people tried to sign up for 30 slots.
The only thing missing was the ice (mostly).
Fear and Breastfeeding in Las Vegas

Fear and Breastfeeding in Las Vegas is the name of a blog entry from The Leaky Boob, a “lactivist” (love the word) blog about breastfeeding. It’s a great story (go read it) of a breastfeeding mother standing up to a restaurant in Las Vegas that questioned her breastfeeding of her child there.
I also think it is related to barefooting (though, of course, I can find that just about everything is related to barefooting).

Via the blog Free Range Kids comes a story about the Boulder, Colorado Library deciding that Kids Under 12 Can’t be Alone in Library Due to “Dangers” of Stairs, People & Furniture.
Their reasons will sound rather familiar to barefooters.

Those two highlights were on “Unbraided”.
And now, on to “On the Menu”.

Saturday was another of the Adventure Hikes at Clear Creek Metro Park. These are longer-than-the-average-organized-hikes led by the Director of Columbus Metroparks, John O’Meara.
The one on Saturday was 11.6 miles, and just happened to pick a 65° rainless January day.

There were a couple of comments on yesterday ‘s entry, Preach it, Brother, that I thought I’d say a few words about.
