Jaded

Fellow barefooter Lee Parker, the Chatauqua Barefooter, is in town this weekend for the Flint Ridge Knap-In. I met him last year at the same event, and we had time to take a short stroll along the Flint Ridge trail.

This time he came a day early, so we had the chance yesterday to head on down to Hocking Hills for something serious.

Ban That Shoe!

I’ve written before that businesses that are afraid of being sued by barefoot customers being injured somehow never never exhibit the same phobia when it comes to the shoes that really result in lawsuits.

So let me present one of those now.

Barefoot v. Kroger

While I no longer am a member of the SBL, occassionally somebody there will forward something to me from there to ask my opinion about it.

Where the Heck Am I?

On Friday I decided to do a bit of exploring at a completely new place for me, the Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest. I’ve known about it for a while, but it is a longer trip from where I live, and I just never got around to going there.

Last week, in Ticketed While Following the Law, we looked at how occasionally people claim they’ve been ticketed for barefoot driving. A lot of that seems pretty suspicious.

In the comments, Beach Bum wondering if the barefoot driving myth came in along with the NSNSNS signs as a reaction to barefoot hippies.

I’ve taken a bit of a look at that.

Recant Well

Or maybe I got that punctuation wrong, and it should be Re-Cantwell.

For yesterday I did a barefoot hike with another barefoot friend, and I got to show him some of the wonders of Cantwell Cliffs.

The Congressman’s Wife

Here’s a rather interesting old story regarding a barefoot Congressman’s wife.

It’s from Drew Pearson’s column from 1957.

Spoiled

Folks may have noticed that I haven’t really done any barefoot hikes since I got back from Out West. I did one organized hike at Clear Creek on the solstice (but didn’t blog it), and just the other day I did an urban walk around Newark, A Walk with the Currents. But that’s been it.

What’s going on?

The Wayne Post (in New York) just published an article about Tips for happy feet during barefoot season.

One really wonders where they get their information.

Ticketed While Following the Law

Barefooters are well-aware that it is not illegal to drive barefoot. Yet, I regularly hear of people getting ticketed for doing so.

But who says the cops know what they are talking about?
