I have noted before that there will be a Dual Survival — Season 3.
Here’s an update on the new episodes.
As I wrote in that previous entry, no Dave Canterbury. They are replacing him with a new (totally new to TV, so no, it is not Bear Grylls, Mykel Hawke, Les Stroud, or anybody you’ve heard of before) ex-military guy. Cody is quite pleased with who they’ve chosen, but is leaving it to Discovery to announce who it is (which I agree with—and there may be contractual issues involved in revealing it, too).
It appears that the reason Discovery replaced Dave is due to puffery in his biography. He made some claims (particularly before connecting with Dual Survival) on his website that were exaggerations.
Here’s a screenshot of part of his bio page from his website from back in 2008:
You can contrast that with a July, 2010 screenshot (which bio pretty much became his Discovery bio):
It turned out he was not a Ranger, and probably not an official sniper. According to this survivalist board, he may have been designated marksman for a Special Reaction Team, but that is not the same as being a true Army Sniper. (There were also some issues about his claims to be an instructor—he may not have had the full training to be an instructor, but he says he still taught courses.)
Anyways, Dave really seemed to know his stuff when it came to survival (well, when he wasn’t going overly macho, IMHO), so it is unfortunate that it had to end over this.
Regarding Season 3, as far as I know they have shot 4 episodes so far. [All of this, including the photos, is from Cody’s Facebook page. I’ve just consolidated the info into one convenient location.]
I cannot guarantee that this is the order the new episodes will be shown, since editing might affect that. But here is the order they were shot in.
The first new episode was filmed in Central America.
Given the picture, I’d say it looks like he is on the Yucatan peninsula.
Here’s the picture he posted for the second episode.
That looks like Zululand in southern Africa to me.
I imagine he was feeling pretty comfortable with all those other barefoot people around!
The third one is an extremely dry desert in South America.
Most folks guessed that that was the Atacama Desert in Chile.
And finally, for the fourth episode, again in South America, Cody says he’s gone from the driest to the wettest.
So my guess would be the Amazon River basin, probably just east of the Andes.
Anyways, I’m sure we’re all looking forward to finding out who the other half of the duo is, and to seeing the new episodes.
Have been anxiously awaiting for the return of Dual Survival. I can’t wait!!!
I kinda wonder if it’s a fella I met two years ago here in Missouri. Claimed he knew Dave and Cody, he’s also ex-military and also has youtube training videos under Bushcraft on Fire.. and he happens to look alot like Dave Canterbury.. and his name.. Dave/David Wendell. Odds are fairly slim, but that’s my guess.
[…] However, there was more to it than that. It turned out that Dave had exaggerated his background, claiming military experience that he did not have. For instance, while he did have such things as sniper training, it was not at the level that he had claimed. (This information was floating around on some “bushcraft” discussion boards.) You can see a bit more about that whole to-do in my blog entry What’s Up With Dual Survival?. […]
Dave is a bad ass survival expert and can not be replaced .His skills and killer instinct are on another level above any and have been proven and appreciated he is missed…..and needs to return.
I was so glad when Dual Survival returned, I will miss Dave, but Cody is my favorite. It will take time to adjust to having Joe on board he isn.t coming across as a team player. I don;t care for the bickering.
