In case you haven’t heard the news, Dual Survival will be coming back for a third season.
However, no Dave Canterbury.
Shortly after Cody announced on his Facebook page that filming would start soon for season three, Dave put the following on his own Facebook page:
All – I wanted to say Congratulations to the Crew of Dual Survival in the announcment of Season 3, however with that said I will not be involved in Season 3. I have many commitments to Family and Buisness and many more months away from home and family is just not my wish at the present time. My current goals are more based on Pathfinder School Activities. I am sure Discovery has found a suitable replacement and I look forward to watching.
Supposedly they do have an ex-military-type person lined up; they’re just not announcing yet who that is.
Of course, they do need an ex-military-type person. The contrast with Cody’s barefoot bush-hippie ways provides much of the interest of the show.
[Update: newer information here, about Dave having exaggerated his resume. The premier of the new season, with Joe Teti replacing Dave, is on January 1, which I write about here. And, my review of the 1st new episode, Mars on Earth.]
I wrote up my thoughts (from a barefoot perspective) of the second season. If you wish to look at those, here’s the list:
- Season 2, Episode 1: Slash and Burn
- Season 2, Episode 2: Buried Alive
- Season 2, Episode 3: Stuck in the Muck
- Season 2, Episode 4: Bitten
- Season 2, Episode 5: Frozen Plains
- Season 2, Episode 6: Out of Africa
- Season 2, Episode 7: Out of the Clouds
- Season 2, Episode 8: Adrift
- Season 2, Episode 9: Eating Dust
- Season 2, Episode 10: Hippo Island
- Season 2, Episode 11: Up the River
- Season 2, Episode 12: Road to Nowhere
I think they’ll be hard pressed to find the great contrast that Dave provided to Cody’s bush-hippiness. Transitioning from one character to another is always hard on a show. Viewers have already made a connection with the rythms of the characters and their various idiosyncracies. I wonder if this will mark the final season.
it is not always the case that a new character marks the end of the series… hell look at Dr Who. And as Far as contrasting Cody any ex-military type would work… it is just important that they are able to provide the chemistry… I look forward to seeing season 3
dual survival is as the name implies-two separate points of view regarding survival techniques – & how to work within the parameters of each perspective. neither phillosophy is incorrect, as they both achieve the same means to an end & this show, artfully displays this intent! Personally, i have benefited from both points of view & find this incrediably helpful & instructional!!
i dont care i just want it back! its the best and most informative survival show out there
Will miss Dave so much. These two really do seem to even each other out. I will watch at home with Dave. He talked last year about a grand daughter in the dog food epioside. Hope all his family is doing Great. I know they will love to have him home.
Will miss Dave, but just love the show!!! Me and my husband cannot wait until it is back on the air. I hope there are many seasons to come!!!!
Great show. I’m also disappointed about Dave as well. I can almost hear him now: “friggin’ hippie walking bear foot in the jungle….” LOL good stuff, good chemistry, good team, that also respected each other when it came right down to it. I’m very glad there’s a season 3 either way. We all have high hopes.
i just wanna know when season 3 will start. i want to see if it is going to be any good without Dave. certain people will not get my continued interest or support in this show. i do hope that hippie cody will finally have to start pulling his weight instead of making the other guy do all the work. Dave always had to carry cody in every episode, and that’s not right. unfortnately i do believe that Dave’s departure from the show will mark the end of this series. but we’ll see.
Season 3 is shooting now. And wiht all due respect, Cody more than pulled his weight. As far as I am concerned, Dave did a lot of macho showboating that wouldn’t particularly help someone in a real survival situation.
Cody, Ray Mears, Bear Grylls and Dave went into a survival situation together. Dave died blowing his face off trying to cauterize a wound with gun powder. Bear did a back-flip off a waterfall onto a rock and died. Cody and Ray lived comfortably with nothing but a knife taking no unnecessary risks.
Ray: hey Cody, let’s go explore that region over there.
Cody: why not… it’ll set us back a few weeks, but sounds like fun
Cody: hey Ray, what’s for dinner tonight?
Ray: just oysters, flounder, wild hog and a garden salads
Cody: mmm, surf and turf
LOL
If “Bewitched” was able to survive with a new Darrin, this show should be able to survive with a new “Dave.”
I wish they would get bear grill to go with cody
its bullshit dave should stay on the show that really pisses me off i really like this show reconsider discoverey producers!
Dave lying about anything is only speculation that was apparently hinted to but never confirmed. However, I will say… I’ve watched the show, every episode. Dave is a man’s man with a vast amount of survival knowledge. I’ve seen him boldly scale cliffs, catch and kill (poisonous) snakes, hunt wild bore and kill an alligator. If he told me he lied about his survival experience/skills, I might not believe him! He’s one tough dude.
There are alot of military trained Survival instructors out there and they might find one who fits the casting requirments however I don’t think they will find someone as flexable and forgiving with Codys style of survival. The military teaches objective and mission time frame priorities allowing semi-risky manuvers The posibility of injury is greater but acceptable and if the new member is hard headed (Alpha Male) than you will be in for more arguments and less instruction. Just my opinion and Dave will be missed.
I think it will be Mykel Hawke, I know they are not doing man, woman wild next season. Myke said on a post he wouldn’t say good bye just see you later.
No, it will not be Mykel Hawke. It has specifically been said that it is a person without TV experience.
Dual Survival is absolutely my favorite show on TV, Cable or Network. So although I am bummed hearing the Dave won’t be back, it’s not nearly as depressing as the realization the Dave has a “Facebook” page!!! Please tell me that he does not also have a “Twitter” (whatever you would call it) I’m sure that he doesn’t, Because no “Man” has a Twitter anything…. Dear lord I just can’t take it anymore……
[…] Last April it was announced that shooting would begin for Season Three, but without Dave Canterbury. Dave put out a statement saying that other commitments got in the way. You can read about that when I wrote Dual Survival — Season 3. […]
mike
chemistry is very important we will have to wait and see if dual survival will survive
I watched the new show tonight. Joe was a little to quick on the decisions to kill things and to move to fast. Dave and Cody talked about decisions first and didn’t kill everything they came in contact with.
i miss dave and hope maybe some reunion can be hatched by discovery in the future.. that would be awsum, im a huge fan and enjoyed cody and daves bond … new season is great but my wish would be to see a dual survival reunion and then the circle will be complete … cody ur my hero!
Watched the first episode of season 3 and don’t think I will be tuning in on a regular basis. Joe Teti was as interesting as a wet dish rag, Boy did they mess up the chemistry for this show. I rather watch Dave on youtube!!!!
I love the show for season 1 and 2. Season 3 in blowing chunks, don’t like the new guy!
Well I have watched the new season 3 Dual Survivor and it sucks. You can take Mr. Know-it-all Joe and get rid of him. I have learned more survival tips from Cody in the past year then Joe can count on one hand. Cody and Dave meshed together. All Joe wants to do is argue and try to convince the viewers how smart he is, that he knows everything, and just puts Cody down constantly. It’s not fun to watch anymore. I am sick of the bickering and the constant putdowns from Joe. Just get rid of the Jerk! Pat Keck
Exactly Patricia!!! Hate Joe and won’t watch show any longer.
I totally agree. The new guy is a know it all jerk.
No enjoyment any longer. Joe is a loud-mouthed, foul-mouthed, arrogant, quick-to-kill, argumentative know-it-all. This is definitely not a partnership. Where are the ‘team’ decisions, discussions/communications, thoughtful considerations, and respect for your partner? Not to mention the respect for wildlife and their lives? This is not the ‘good for family’ show that used to inspire thoughtful and focused family discussions. Probably won’t be tuning in any longer. Dave & Cody made a much better team.
