Bird feeders give life. I’ve had so many different birds there. But they also attract the sorts of birds that take advantage of that.
So this is what I saw outside my window yesterday afternoon.
I’m pretty sure this is a Cooper’s Hawk. You can see he’s caught something.
That is the top of a trellis that is part of our deck. The bird feeder is just
beyond the deck to the left.
It looks like he got a house finch. Some of that red is blood, but I think there are also red feathers there.
The pictures aren’t perfect. I had to shoot through my window. Fortunately, I’d removed the screen before winter began, just in case.
When I tried to open the window for a clearer shot, I did it as slowly and carefully as possible, but he took flight almost immediately. He did have the presence of mind to bring his dinner with him, though.
Hey, hawks have to eat, too.
